Psa 92:12-15 Amplifed
(12) The [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like the palm tree [be long-lived, stately, upright, useful, and fruitful]; they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible].
(13) Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
(14) [Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].
(15) [They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. [Rom. 9:14.]
Oh how I wish all God’s people would search out and study His word and believe it. This single scripture alone is enough to transform any life into an unimaginable success that astounds onlookers. It speaks volumes of what God has prepared for those who can only believe. When you read such a scripture, do a little personal research on keywords like palms and cedars. Google it or ask someone. This will give a clue as to why God likened his children to palms and cedars.
This is how we dig the Word for deeper insight. God likened the righteous person to a palm tree.
QUESTION: Who then is a righteous person in the NT?
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.—2Cor 5:21
A righteous person in the NT is anyone who has accepted Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and hence has become a participator in the divine nature. If you are born again, you have become the righteousness of God in him. Jesus became your sin that you might become his righteousness. This righteous people according to the bible flourish like the palm tree. Why the palm tree? What does this mean? This means the righteous live long, are stately, upright, useful, and fruitful. To understand this better, you must understand the uses of the palm tree and its characteristics. It is a very unique tree.
Palm trees
The palm is a multi-purpose and so are we as children of the Most-High. In parts of India, it is reckoned that that palm has over 800 uses. There are about 2,600 known species of the palm and each with uncountable uses. Every part of the palm is useful for food, drinks, fruits, ropes, baskets, cups, wine, vinegar, vegetable, palm oil (red), Palm kernel oil (clear ish), wide array of construction materials etc. Its vegetable known as the millionaire salad or palm heart is very expensive. Likewise we are priceless and we are the solution to the challenges of our world. We provide all the palm provides and aid humanity in its endeavors as a service to God. Rev 7:9 says we will meet our Master with palms in our hands.
Cedars
The scripture went on to say that the righteous grow like a cedar in Lebanon. This means we are majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible just like the cedar and we flourish in the house of the Lord, in the courts of our God.
The cedar of Lebanon is a symbol of immovability and strength. It grows up to about 130 ft tall, with a trunk of up to 40 ft in circumference. Some of these cedars found in modern Syria are estimated to be 800-1000 years old—long life. Cedars were imported by Solomon and used in building God’s temple (1Chr 22:4) and his own houses because they are mighty trees perfect for boards, pillars and other uses.
Thank God that I am flourishing like a palm and grow like a cedar. May this be the experiential portion of all God’s people.
