Dearly beloved Saints, Hello! I trust you had a great weekend. I wish you a blessed week. The statement that Truth IS God’s Word to may sound very basic BUT one must perceive the statement with her/his spirit and not the mind for the statement to be adequately understood and thus beneficial.
Our foundational scripture for this blog post is:
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word (logos) is truth.—Joh 17:17 KJV
Sanctify comes from a Greek work transliterated hagiazo (From G40) and it means to make holy, that is, to (ceremonially) purify or consecrate; (mentally) to venerate: – hallow, be holy, sanctify. Jesus was asking the Father to make men holy through the agency of the Truth. Truth sanctifies. It has the power to make holy or purify and consecrate.
Truth therefore is not merely conformity to fact or purity from falsehood. If so, it would not have the ability to make holy. Jesus defines truth for us in His next statement. He says, thy Word is Truth. Who is the thy referring to? Who was he addressing? He was addressing His Father. So Truth is God the Father’s Word. If Jesus’ definition is correct, then we can use these two terms interchangeably. Where we see Truth, we can replace or substitute with God the Father’s Word and that will not be error because Jesus said, ‘thy Word is Truth’.
1. THE WORD AND TRUTH
With that out of the way, let’s delve into a deeper investigation of truth. Let us begin with the following scriptures:
Gen 1:1-3 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (2) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (3) And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Joh 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) The same was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (4) In him was life; and the life was the light of men. (5) And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
If Jesus is right and God’s Word is Truth, then:
i. Truth according to John 1:1 and Gen 1:1,3 was in the Beginning, before anything was made
ii. Truth is the Word and the Word is GOD (John 1:1). So Truth is GOD.
iii. Truth made all things as the spoken Word of God in Gen 1:3,6,9,11,14,20,24,26 etc
iv. Truth contains the life of God. It is this life that lights the candles i.e. spirits of men (Proverbs 20:27), recreating us (1Pet 1:23)
v. The light that truth gives cannot be comprehended or put out by darkness
We see that Truth is indomitable. Truth is the Word of God i.e. the Logos, the very expression of all that God is. No wonder Truth can make men holy. Truth is God!
2. TRUTH IS JESUS, SON OF GOD
Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Joh 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
God’s Word is truth. This Word is full of Grace and Truth. Truth is graceful or full of grace.
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Joh 14:7-11 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. (8) Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. (9) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? (10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. (11) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.The Truth is God’s Word. God’s Word is Jesus and Jesus is God. So God is one with his Word. This speaks of perfect integrity. God is integrated with His Word. He is His Word so what He says, he does. There is no shadow of turning in Him. In other words God cannot lie.
Many of us are like Philip. We claim to know the Truth and yet even after living with Truth for years, we ask him, show us the father. Jesus and the father are one. Why is this truth so hard to comprehend? Because it cannot be assimilated through mental exercise but rather through spiritual understanding.
Tit 1:1-2 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; (2) In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
God cannot lie. What he says, he does. That is why we must depend on the sure Word of prophecy. It will never fail. What is the sure word of prophecy? It is the Holy Scriptures.
2Pe 1:19-21 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: (20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. (21) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
The sure Word of Prophecy is the Holy Scriptures. Because they are inspired of God, they will come to pass. They’ll never fail. What the scriptures have said about you or me will never fail. We cannot say the same for human prophets. They may sometimes misinterpret or misrepresent what they have received by inspiration. That is why whatever we receive by prophecy from humans must be checked against the sure Word of prophecy i.e. the Holy Scripture.
That is not to say we are to despise prophesying. As Apostle Paul taught,
1Th 5:20-22 Despise not prophesyings. (21) Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (22) Abstain from all appearance of evil.
When we are sure we have heard from God, let us understand that HE is the highest form of integrity there is. He is one with His Word. …and the Word was God. God cannot break His Word. He is Truth. Always dependable! You can depend on His word. This dependence is what is called faith in His Word.
Num 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Heb 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
1Th 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
3. Truth is the Son of God
Heb 1:1-3 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets (2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
We already established that Truth is Jesus. He is the communication of God to the New Testament saint. He is appointed heir of all things. It was by Truth that the worlds were created. Truth is the brightness of God’s glory, and the express image of His person. Truth as we have already proved upholds all things and is enthroned in Heaven.
Truth is not what we see, hear, taste, feel or smell. It is not what we perceive by our physical senses. Truth is what the Creator says. Truth is God’s perspective on issues because only what He says is Truth. If the Doctor says I have cancer but the sure word of prophecy says in Isaiah 53 that I am healed, what do I do? Who do I believe? Choose to believe the report of God and His sure Word of Prophecy. His report will change any physical situation. His report is Truth. What the Doctor said is physical fact. Truth trumps fact any day. Truth is superior to physical fact because Truth made all things and upholds them. Truth changes physical fact because Truth transcends the physical realm.
To worship God in Spirit and in Truth is to worship Him in Spirit and according to the Word of God–not according to what the doctor says or what the world economy says. If we hold on to Truth i.e. God’s Word, it will change physical facts and transfigure our lives into what Truth has said about us.
